I have five daughters, which might lead one to think that I am really good at doing girls hair, but nothing could be further from the truth. I am so not one of those moms that can make a cool french braid or come up with a different style daily. That's why Sammy's hair is always worn down, in a high-ponytail or with a headband. I just don't have the talent to do more than that. However there are days that my little girl needs to look more put together and those are the days that I reach into my bag of tricks for one of the few hairdos that I do know how to create. As usual it has to be easy and it has to be quick.

This headband chignon is one of the easiest hairdos to create and the finished style looks like you seriously put effort into it. Today I am going to share exactly how to create this style in just minutes.

For this style I am using a selection of Goody Hairbrushes that I purchased at Walmart. These three brushes are great tools for everyday styling and each have their purpose.

  • Goody Ouchless Girls Oval Brush: Perfect for Sammy. Goody’s exclusive FlexGlide™ bristles combine strength with flexibility to get through messy hair gently so she won’t feel snags and pulls. This is my baby's brush and she loves it.
  • Goody Amp It Up Medium Round Brush: we use this round brush to straighten, smooth, or create volume. It's perfect for my wavy, layered hair and for Sammy's bangs.
  • Goody Gelous Grip Paddle Brush: An all-purpose brush perfect for daily styling. I love the gel gripped handle which makes long brushing sessions more comfortable.

You will also need a wrap around headband and at least 6 bobby pins.

Since she has so much hair I like to start working on it when it's slightly damp, which will make putting the chignon together easier. I brush out her hair using the Goody Ouchless Girls Oval Brush which Gently brushes out her toughest tangles without the tears.

She has a lot of hair but it's very fine which make tangles a constant problem. the Goody Ouchless Girls Oval Brush makes brushing less painful for both of us and it's super cute!

1. part hair in the middle
2. place headband on exactly like the picture below, you want the headband to be over the hair and not underneath
3. now we will begin to wrap sections of hair over the headband, repeat this step on one side and then do the second side leaving the back of the hair for last
4. once we get to the back I will twist the hair before rolling into the headband and tucking it in, this doesn't have to be super neat as the chignon is supposed to be a little messy
5. the trick to having this style stay pin hair with bobby pins all along the length of the chignon and especially in the back
If your child does not have bangs you are done. But Sammy has sideways bangs that we are still training so I take the Goody Amp It Up Round Brush with the blowdryer to give her bangs that side swept look we need. The short bristles on this brush make it easy to grab sections of hair and really add volume from the root so she doesn't have those flat bangs that drive me mad.

Now you can just pull a few loose tendrils from the front for that careless & messy effect and you are done. It's up to you if you want to add a small sprits of hairspray to keep the look fresh longer or not. I am not big into putting product into her hair but will do it depending on where we are going and for how long.

Pretty painless right? And it looks like you spent a lot more time creating this hairstyle than you actually did. I love how grownup  and put together she looks with this style. It's a very chic style that looks good on any age really. Sam is 8 years old but this style looks great on all women.

Whichever hairstyle you choose for your child, the right tools make a big difference. Goody Brushes have been around since I was a kid and I love how they carry such a wide range of brushes. Whether you are looking for a hair brush that helps deal with tangles or one that gives you more volume, Goody Hairbrushes has you covered and they are super affordable, especially at Walmart where I can get everything I need to help Sammy show off her style.

Now she's ready to take that selfie, and it only took 15 minutes to get that super-cute look! I hope you enjoyed this easy hair tutorial and that it has helped you create the style for yourself or your daughter. Check out the Goody Brushes Social Hub for more hairstyling ideas!
