Fall classes start next week and as you might already know, college aged kids are not quite prepared for life and having to deal with things like car care. My girls never even remember that a car needs gas, I always tell them that they think cars run on hopes and dreams. So if they don't remember important things like oil changes and regular maintenance, they don't know what they will need in order to get their car cleaned up and ready to go to school in a clean vehicle. It's a brand new year, of course their car should be clean and sparkly just like everything else. Here are 4 tips to help you help your kid get their vehicle ready to head back to college.
1) Maintenance Check Up: This is such an important step before sending your child back to school with their car. Take the car to the dealership and have a regular maintenance exam done as well as an oil change. If you provide regular maintenance for these vehicles then it should be no more than the normal fluids and work needing to be done.
2) Check the tires: Our cars both have newer tires and part of the warranty includes air fill ups and rotations. Take the car into your tire dealer and have them perform the needed tasks or check the tire tread yourself as well as the air pressure.
3) Wash & Clean: We live in a rural town which means that our vehicles are usually covered in a few inches of dirt, no matter how many times we wash them. If running short on time I recommend taking the car to the full service wash but something a lot more budget friendly is to wash the car at home and clean the inside yourself. For me this is usually the way to go because I can save that cash for other important things we need to buy for back-to-school. Before washing the car head to Walmart to buy Armor All® products perfect for taking the best care of your vehicle. Download a coupon for $2.50 off on any of these 4 products: Armor All® Outlast Trim & Plastic Restorer, Armor All® Outlast Tire Glaze, Armor All® Outlast Leather Restorer, and/or Armor All® Outlast Protectant. And don't clean the car for your child, you can help, but it's bette to share with them how to do it themselves. Armor All® has been taking care of the inside of my cars every since I can remember, cars are such an investment that you want to make sure your child is using the best product to care for the interior of their vehicle too.
4) Car-care package: If your child is going away to school then you want them to have the products they will need to take care of the car themselves. It's time to make them a car-care goodie box to take with them. I make it fun by adding some personal stuff too or else they might throw my goodie box out at the first chance they get.
Okay so now the car is in good working order, washed and cleaned and now the only thing left is the hardest, saying goodbye to your child. But don't worry, they will be back. I know it's not easy but at least now you have peace of mind knowing that your child is safe on the road and that they will show up with a car that won't embarrass them. What tips can you share for getting your kid and their car ready for back to college?
