Spring break is right around the corner and we have been doing lots of shopping in preparation for the vacation we plan on taking that whole week the kids are off of school. As you might know, we took a quick 4 day vacation in February to Carlsbad, Ca which is my hometown and the most beautiful beach town ever. While there, we decided we wanted to go back for spring break, but in order to do so, we have had to cinch the belt of spending just a tad. Vacations are very expensive, vacations on the beach with 5 kids are SUPER EXPENSIVE. So how does one cut back on spending when there are things like cell phones and data plans needed?

Well that's an easy one! At least for us it has been the past few years. With such a large family, I have been a fan of Walmart Family Mobile, pretty much since it's inception. This is the service that has allowed me to not just upgrade my girls phones at least once a year, it has given us the gift of communication throughout the day. Whether we want to admit it or not, nowadays children need phones and it should not be an expensive that drives you mad with worry like it used to be. And with the new 4G speeds, we are online all day without worries about bad service or overage fees (yay to no overage fees!).

So when it came time to pick a phone for Angel who wants to be able to keep in touch with his friends when we are on vacation, we took our normal trip to Walmart to check out the options. Angel is my first grandson, and I love him to death, but this is the kid that has to get a new tablet once a year. He's not exactly gentle with his stuff so we were specifically looking for a more "affordable' (meaning easy to replace) phone for him. The Alcatel Evolve 2 is currently only $39.83 after dropping from $59.88. A great price for a quality smart phone. When purchasing WFM phones don't forget to buy your $25 starter kit for each line: $29.88/month (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 500MB of 4G LTE data.

Is that smile worth it or what? And we made a deal with him, as I do with all of the children, do well in school and take care of this phone and he can get an upgrade in October for his birthday.

Spring break is officially three weeks away and this week I am reserving our rooms for the stay in Carlsbad. The little girls have their new bathing suits, the little boys have their new sand toys and Angel has a new smart phone to keep in touch with his pals. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg! Now that's worth celebrating right?

Saving money is important for my family, that way we can spend it on better things like a week at the beach. What spring activity would you be spending you WFM savings on??
