My Best in Beauty of 2014 - Sammy Makes Six

My Best in Beauty of 2014

It's New Years Eve and as we get ready to greet the new year, I am here to share with you my favorite beauty picks of 2014. This has been a great year for me when it comes to remembering how much I love my makeup and other beauty items. For so long I had kind of let that side of me slumber in order to concentrate on much more important things, but I always had such a passion for makeup and I am happy to be back in the middle of it. You know me, I am more of a drugstore gal, though I did delve into some high end. But at the end of the day I picked the items that really stood out for me and some of the ones that I used the most. These are my favorites of 2014.

Yeah just by taking a quick peek at this photo, we can all guess that I am lipstick gal above all. I just love lipstick, I always have. There is something about it that just makes me happy, and it can be either high end, or drugstore. I also became really obsessed with foundation this year and have now begun a love affair with eye shadows too! Goodness, there is just so much makeup, how can you not want it all?

After owning almost no eyeshadows, I am closing 2014 the owner of two Coastal Scents palletes, a few small Wet n Wild pallets and even two gorgeous Tarte palletes. But the little pallete that I really enjoyed using since finding it in November was this E.L.F. Cosmetics palette. This was one of their holiday items and was ONLY $3. Yet the colors are so beautiful and so easy to work with, that even a newbie like me can use them. I love that gold shadow for an accent and just love what a great little treat this is for that tiny price. I gifted one of these to Cici because I loved it so much.

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara was my favorite mascara of the year followed by Urban Decay's Perversion. I purchased two Lancome Grandiose mascaras when those first launched and was really disappointed with that one because it only gives length and separation but no volume. Better Than Sex does everything and makes my lashes look amazing!

I was a MIlani newbie until finding their Enchanted Collection earlier this year. At $4.80 these lippies totally caught my eye and I loved the three shades so much. I also tried the Constellation liners that launched with these and hated them, but the lippies caught my heart. I purchased six in all so I could share with my girls.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation became my favorite of the 15 foundations in my stash. I love the finish is this foundation, it is very light on the skin but it covers my imperfections so well and never delivers that cakey, overdone look. My second favorite foundation is my former holy grail foundation Teint Idole Ultra by Lancome. That was my favorite for years and years and this year I rediscovered my love for it. If I could take two foundations only with me on a deserted island, these two would be it.

L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints and Too Faced Melted Lipsticks are some of my other favorites this year. L.A. Girl really went out and gave us a TON of colors, plus serious pigment with a great mint feel. What I really love about these is the price point, not everyone can afford a Too Faced Melted Lipstick but at about $3.50, anyone can get a few of these. And don't let the price fool you, they are awesome!

Meanwhile Too Faced Melted Lippies are the bomb. I love these guys even though they are $21 a piece. Unlike the Glazed lippies, these set to a matte finish after a few hours and have so much pigment. I love that they are not overly matte and they feel super comfortable on the lips. The wear time is also there, I have worn the red for over 8 hours.

One more standout for me when it comes to lip color has to be Maybelline's The Elixir in Vision in Violet. I spent months and month wanting these and now I own six, but this color is the real standout for me. It is so pigmented, it feels so nice and velvety soft and it just delivers! I will be needing to get a backup of this color very soon.

My top pick of 2014 has to be Maybelline's Matte Collection. I own 5 of these and have gifted two. From the minute these came out, I fell in love with the colors and that finish. These are matte but they go on SO creamy, and once on the lips they feel soft and smooth and you can rub your lips, they are just totally unlike another matte lipstick.

Today I swatched the six colors we have here to give you a better idea of this amazing collection, if you don't already have it. I will be writing a more detailed post on these babies because they are just that great.

I've already started on 2015 makeup items, and can't wait to see what else the new year will bring us when it comes to beauty. As always, I will stick mostly to drugstore items with a little dip here and there to high end, and will be bringing you many reviews. I have teamed up with a few other ladies to bring you all our 2014 faves AND to bring you all an amazing end of the year giveaway. Click the link and go check out what the other ladies are loving. Happy 2015!
