From the minute I first saw a picture of the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints, I knew I had to buy them. It was the same thing as when I first spotted the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. Being such a huge fan of bright lippies, especially ones that are super pigmented, these lip products are what I live for. Last week I decided I deserved a treat after what was a long week of work and I thought about getting a third Too Faced Melted Lipstick, I am really wanting to pick up the coral one. But then I remembered that for just a few dollars more, I could buy the entire L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints collection. It was a no brainer really and I placed my order that same day. Lucky for me L.A. Girl ships out of Ontario so even though they took two days to ship, my order arrived the day after, exactly three days after placing my order. These are priced at $4 on the L.A. Girl site but you can find them cheaper on other sites online, including Drugstore.com where they are $3.49.
Now I know everyone says that these are supposed to be like Lip Tars and not Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. But the presentation is so similar and they made almost the same colors, except that Too Faced has a more nude shade. The only real difference for me is that with the Too Faced Lipsticks you get a matte finish after a few hours and one application can last for 6+ hours, while these wear off sooner because the finish is much glossier.
I took some pictures the day that I received them and for the sake of getting this post up quickly I am posting them exactly as I took them. There is no retouching, no softening, no getting rid of anything. It was a hot day and what you see here, is what you get. Anyways a quick note on this...THIS is how I prefer to see my swatches. What good are all those posts you see on Instagram where the girls are under white lighting and have a professional person applying the product and then softening everything up. That's not what they really look like and that is not representative of how a product is going to look on you. I would much rather see an untouched picture of a swatch, so I can get a feel of what it is really going to look on me.
Blushing: the most natural every day color of the six shades. This has a purple/plum undertone and is not as nude as many people hoped it was. That's fine by me because I don't wear nudes and I think this is a perfect color for ever day and could totally see me wearing it a ton, but Munkey has already asked for it so I won't get the opportunity. But if you are looking to try these and the brighter shades scare you, this would be a good one to try out.
Baby Doll is a very light bubble gum pink that is totally not me. I only got it so I could swatch it for you and I don't know what I will do with it, but I do see how beautiful this shade is. On certain skin tones this will look amazing.
Bombshell is the perfect name for this shade because it truly makes you look like a bombshell. I don't know if I love this more than Pin Up or if it's a tie but what an amazing shade! This I think, will look fantastic on everyone and is a perfect summer shade. I absolutely love this color and I want a back up now!
Hot Mess is not as nice as I imagined. It's not as bright as I had hoped, it could be either more coral or more orange but it's just kind of in between. But even though it's not as bright as I like, it's still pretty and I can totally see me using this a lot.
Coy: I have Too Faced Liquefied Violet but I have never worn it so I'm not sure how close the shades are. I will also be swatching this tomorrow so we can compare. As for Coy though, what a bright splash of color, when you apply it's as if you are applying paint. It is so pigmented and my rush application does it no justice. This is a color you will either love or hate, I know I got some comments on people who love it and some who would just never feel comfortable wearing it. I think I'm def going to wear it and even though it's a bit out of my comfort zone, I look forward to scaring Adrian with it. LOL
Pin Up: possibly my favorite. It's a beautiful blue based red and very similar to Too Faced Melted Ruby which I will be comparing tomorrow. It's much prettier than you see here, this was the last pic I took and I was running out of battery and I had to apply as fast as possible. I can't wait to wear this soon and really apply it carefully so we can get a better idea of just how pretty it is. I knew I would love this color!
The amazing thing about the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints is that the color you see on the tube is basically the color you get inside. The pigmentation is superb and you just need one pass to get the full color. These swatches are all with one small squeeze, a little def goes a long way.
With flash they are just as gorgeous.
The formula itself is very thick with a minty scent and a cooling minty feel, which is fantastic. The only con that I can see up to this point is the applicator which is just like a Carmex tube. Because they don't have an applicator like the Too Faced Melted Liquefied Lipsticks, you have harder time getting a precise application and most people are applying them with a brush. I think you can still apply it without one, like if you are on-the-go, it just takes a little while to apply evenly but it's totally not a deal breaker for me. I haven't gotten to wear them for more than an hour or so but I know already that I like them a lot and I am extremely pleased with them. For the price they are a total steal and I do recommend them.
I hope you will stay tuned for my Too Faced comparisons and review this week!
