Somos Fuertes Con Leche & Familia

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with The National Hispanic Milk Life Campaign and DiMe Media, however all opinions are my own.

I've always been really lucky to have kids who love milk just as much as I do. Only one of my kids doesn't "love"it, unless it's in cereal. But the rest of us can have a cold glass of milk on its own, or we can enjoy it in a variety of other ways. Not all parents are as lucky as I am, there are some kids that need a little push to drink more milk. Many kids are falling short on important nutrients including calcium, vitamin D and potassium -- key nutrients found in milk. Milk is in fact, the top food source for three of the four nutrients missing from most kids’ diets – calcium, vitamin D and potassium. Incorporating milk into a child's diet, is a great way for them to get those nutrients their little bodies need.

If you happen to have a picky kid, today I am sharing one of our very favorite recipes, that's so good, they might forget they are drinking milk. This recipe is super simple and can be prepped in minutes to be enjoyed as breakfast or anytime of the day really.

Licuado de Platano & Chocolate

1 banana
1 cup of ice
2 tablespoon vanilla
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
2 cups of milk

Blend until smooth & serve cold. You can always replace or lower the amount of sugar in this recipe, we choose the amount depending on when we will be enjoying it.

This such a delicious drink and a great to start to any day. My girls love it so much that they actually ask Adrian to make it when they are coming over.

We also really like to enjoy plain milk a lot and am always running back to the store for another gallon. Milk is a no sugar added beverage with 9 essential nutrients including 8 grams of protein so I don't mind that the kids all grab themselves a cup when they get home from school.

Nothing tides an empty tummy and energy zapped body over more than a glass of ice cold milk, with a few cookies. After seven hours in class, these kids can definitely enjoy a few cookies with their milk. They deserve it!

These little growing bodies need as much protein, calcium and vitamins as possible! There's so much for them to absorb in this life that those bodies need to be in tip-top shape.

Tips for getting kids to drink milk:

  • make it yummy - if your kids prefer flavored milk, add flavor. It's better for kids to enjoy flavored milk than none at all.
  • incorporate it into a smoothie - making milk smoothies like the one I shared is a great way to get kids to drink more milk. There are so many smoothies you can make too, the possibilities are pretty endless.
  • make it fun - buy fun cups and straws, this works for some kids.
  • incorporate it into your other meals: there are other meals you can add milk to if your kids really refuse to drink it.

My family is a very active one and it runs on milk and the strength of each other. Visit FuertesConLeche.com for more easy milk recipes and ideas.
