DIY Milk Carton Flower Pot - Sammy Makes Six

DIY Milk Carton Flower Pot

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with the California Milk Processor Board and DiMe Media. However, all opinions are my own.

Hey California residents, I have a super-fun contest for you that's a blast to enter! Want to win $2,000 for your kid’s education? If you live in California turn a milk container into a work of art and send your piece to: facebook.com/tomaleche to enter the “Milk and Art Contest”contest (rules). Prizes include up to $2,000 to kick-start your child’s college fund. This contest is a great way to not just enter something fun that could possibly payout nicely, but it is a great way to spend time with your kids. Sammy has been all about arts and crafts since she was very little, so we are constantly working on DIY's and art projects. This contest gave us an opportunity for more time together and we had a lot of fun making a video of our project as well.

The challenge is to take a milk container (jug or carton) and create a DIY with your child. My first thought was bird house which is the perfect project for a milk carton, but then I realized it's Spring and I wanted to work with some colorful flowers. Our finished planter is perfect for Spring and also makes a great gift idea. It was also super-easy to make!

What you will need:
empty carton of milk
glue gun
flower with soil
piece of burlap
plastic flower for decoration
x-acto knife or scissors

instructions:
Cut milk carton to the size you want to make your planter. mark two holes on the bottom part of the carton to allow water to drain and cut them out. Now you can cut the burlap according to the size of your carton. Now carefully (adult holding the glue gun unless child can do it safely) glue burlap to the carton. Give it a few minutes to set and glue your decorative plastic flower to the corner, if you have extra flowers decorate the pot to your taste. Now you're ready to fill your pot with plants/flowers.

Only California residents can enter this contest, but I hope you take this idea and make an adorable planter with your kids for fun. I'm always looking for ways to spend quality time with Sammy and this was a blast. If you are in California enter the #MilkAndArtContest here and our giveaway below.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS ONLY OPEN TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS!
